			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<!-- sphereit start --><p>The <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060919/ap_on_re_as/thailand" target="_blank">Thai military has launched a coup</a> aimed at removing PM Thaksin Shinawatra.</p>
<blockquote><p>An announcement on Thai television declared that a &#8220;Council of Administrative Reform&#8221; with King Bhumibol Adulyadej as head of state had seized power in Bangkok and nearby provinces without any resistance.</p></blockquote>
<p>Done while Thaksin is in New York at the United Nations.</p>
<p>I have not paid attention to Thai politics (although I do like their cuisine) but one thing in this article stood out:</p>
<blockquote><p>Thaksin&#8217;s critics want to jettison his policies promoting privatization, free trade agreements and CEO-style administration.</p></blockquote>
<p>Thaksin could be as dirty has a Crawford peace protester for all I know, but privatization and free trade sound like good things.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll have to look into this a bit more.</p>
