Coup in Thailand

The Thai military has launched a coup aimed at removing PM Thaksin Shinawatra.
An announcement on Thai television declared that a “Council of Administrative Reform” with King Bhumibol Adulyadej as head of state had seized power in Bangkok and nearby provinces without any resistance.
Done while Thaksin is in New York at the United Nations.
I have not paid attention to Thai politics (although I do like their cuisine) but one thing in this article stood out:
Thaksin’s critics want to jettison his policies promoting privatization, free trade agreements and CEO-style administration.
Thaksin could be as dirty has a Crawford peace protester for all I know, but privatization and free trade sound like good things.
I’ll have to look into this a bit more.
