Heading for 200000

I just noticed that Sitemeter says I’m about to turn over the odometer to 200,000. As I write this I’m just 419 visitors away. I don’t have anything to offer to the 200,000th guest other than some link love. Who will it be?

bRight & Early will be hitting the 4th Blogiversary in a little over six weeks. It has been a really good year, encouraging me to enter year five with renewed energy.

Some time later today I will hit 100000 unique visitors since my last blogiversary. (What can I say? I’m an unreformed numbers geek.) Thanks to everyone who takes the time to drop in from time to time. Even those of you just looking for pictures of Elisha Cuthbert, Cote de Pablo, and Gabrielle Anwar.

The New Old Sitemeter

I didn’t even have time to post on the new sitemeter before it went back to being the old sitemeter.

As you’re no doubt aware by now, we’ve chosen to roll back our website to the previous “classic” version.

Based on some performance issues we were experiencing along with feedback from the community it appears we have pushed our new site live prematurely.

Our intention is and has always been to offer you, our customer’s better tools and more accurate data. Obviously we fell short of this. The first thing we need to do, moving forward, is to roll out new product releases in parallel to our current platform. This will give everyone a chance to try out, evaluate, and comment on our new concepts.

[...]

We apologize for the botched rollout and will do our best to make sure the next time we do this it has your full support and blessing.

I was among those who didn’t like the new version. That being said, I’m not going to fault them for what they did. I use their free service, and really like the information they provide. Still, I hope they do examine the changes more carefully before they roll them out. I do appreciate that they recognized the problems, took responsibility for them, and were willing and able to reverse their plans.

A Brief Review

A very brief review before I start year four.

bRight & Early started at blogspot (http://brightandearly.blogspot.com/) three years ago today. Sixteen posts later I moved to a sub domain of a domain I no longer own. I’ve been through several versions of WordPress, currently using 2.5.1 At the end of February 2006 I moved everything over here, and here I plan to stay.

This is post #3206. That works out to just under three posts per day. Way too few.
There are 95 categories and 1183 tags and nearly 6500 comments.

I am 8151 visitors away from 100,000. At the current rate (which has improved greatly over the past few months) I should get there in less than two months.

Year Four, here I come.

When I checked sitemeter after getting home I was shocked! Shocked I tell you!! I have had 11 visitors all day?!? None most hours. None! Which is when I realized that the screw up with the theme that wrote about this morning included removing the sitemeter code. Yeah me.

So, if you visited already today, please come back. Tell your friends.

First CupI never drink coffee at lunch. I find it keeps me awake for the afternoon. ~ Ronald Reagan

I have allowed other things to keep me from blogging here for much too long. Some, good, fun projects to be sure, but it’s time to get back to doing what I enjoy so much.

The Political Director of BlogTalkRadio, Ed Morrissey (Captain’s Quarters), has just announced the start of a new blog, Heading Right. It is intended to be the group blog for conservative BTR talk show hosts and I’m looking forward to taking part.

Related to that, a reminder that another edition of First Cup Radio will be on the air at 6:00am ET tomorrow. Join me “bRight & Early” to discuss the best posts from around the conservative blogosphere. And since it’s Wednesday, we can discuss Monday night’s episode of 24. There will be some other blogging and 24 related items to discuss, so be sure to tune in and call in. The call in number is (718) 664-9725.

There is some stirring in the TTLB Bears den. Although that is a good thing, the drop from 202 to 324 is not. ;-)

It also appears that Sitemeter’s updated blogs function is working again. That will make putting the First Cup post much easier. I’ll demonstrate that in the morning.

A Blogiversary And Other Random Sunday Thoughts

Happy 1st Blogiversary to
Westbankblog

This is a very busy stretch of Blogiversaries. Two yesterday, Westbankblog today, and Alabama Improper tomorrow.

There are now 157 blogs in the database. I’m going to try and take a look at all of them today and see how many have added the code to display the day’s celebrants.

You can find out more about the Blogiversary Database here. If you haven’t added your blog’s information yet, click here.

One of the blogrolling features that I really like is the ability to see recently updated sites. Except now. I hope they’re working on that.

Yesterday was my 8th lowest traffic day all year. Today may break that record. Is there a problem with sitemeter too? I bet not. If spambots triggered the sitemeter hit counter, I’d really be racking up the traffic.

Ok, that’s it for now. I’m working on some Blogiversary Database stuff. More later.

Hello??

I looked at my sitemeter stats this morning and was really depressed when it showed zero visitors since early this morning. I don’t expect a great amount of traffic over night, but usually someone stops by.

On further examination I see that, “The statistics for visitors from the last 322 minutes are not yet available.”

So, if you’re here, leave a comment. There aren’t enough of them anyhow.

UPDATE 11:46am — The Sitemeter Weblog has this information now:

Due to a power outage, the statistics for most accounts are currently delayed about 7 hours. They shouldl start catching back up to real-time in the next hour or two. No statistics were lost, just the reporting is deplayed. Thanks.
