WordPress version 2.9 has been released, which means I’ve been busy getting my publishing empire upgraded.

That should do it for now. I’m going to bed.

And I’m up again. Meant to add the links last night. I’ve done so now.

Radio Show No Go

If you tried to tune in to last night’s bRight @ Night show you would have heard, well, nothing. The problem was not with Blog Talk Radio, but was caused by some technical difficulties here. Every 5-15 minutes the computer would restart, which really had me worried. Turned out that their was a loose connection with the power cord. Of course I didn’t discover that until after midnight. By then I was too tired to even right a paragraph like this one.

The next show will air tomorrow night. Don’t worry, I’m sure there will still be plenty to talk about.

Yes, I’m playing around again

It’s a long weekend, so I’m playing around with the theme again. While I’m doing that I’ve broken out this oldie but goodie.

I’m also getting some things ready for tonight’s Independence Day Warm-up.

Finally, for now, an update on this post. When I wrote that two days ago I had 29 cigarettes left. Right now that number is down to one. Even that is quite a reduction in normal consumption. The good news, yeah I know there’s all that health stuff too, is that I haven’t given the state of Florida or the federal government any more money. And I’m not going to.

Trying Out (another) New Theme

I am trying out another new theme. I like it, but of course tweakage is under way. Your thoughts are welcomed and encouraged.

I’ve got a lot of things fixed, but there is always more to do. That’s what weekends are for. Right?

One thing I want to check out is a blockquote within another blockquote. This is the outer one.

This is the inner one. If everything works like I hope it will, this should be styled a bit differently.

Now we go back to the outer one before closing out the whole thing.

I’ve done a lot of work on the sidebar, adjusted a few styles, and fixed a few things that were not validating.

UPDATE: One more thing, I’ve added a poll for your “grade”. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I really liked quite a bit about the other theme, but the dislikes made me change back, at least for now. I’ve got a busy weekend ahead I see.

About this new theme

I have been working on some changes to this new theme and my thoughts so far are that there is a whole lot I like about the theme, and more than just a few things that I don’t like.

Things I like:

  • The layout of the individual posts on the front page. I like the container with the title, content, and the post information below.
  • The bar at the bottom.
  • I think the graphics are great, even if they probably do slow things down a lot.

Things I don’t like or need to work on:

  • I’m not thrilled with the fonts or the sizes.
  • It’s a little dark for my taste, but that can be fixed with a little work.
  • I always want the site to load faster.

Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I’ve installed a new theme, Inanis Glass, and I kind of like it, but I’m not quite convinced. Of course it will need tweaking. Every theme does.

What do you think?

UPDATE: Help me out here. What have I left out of the sidebar?

I’ll be upgrading the blog to the latest version of WordPress – 2.8 in just a minute. Please make sure your seat belts are secure and your tray tables are in an upright and locked position.

UPPDATE: The install went smoothly. Now let’s see if I broke anything. Let me know if you see anything that isn’t working.

Wow am I running late this morning. I had a lot of things I was hoping to do before work. FAIL.

Since they didn’t get done here’s an open invitation to take a look at other projects (that I also didn’t get to work on this morning).

Reclaim Conservatism — The name says it all.
Reclaim Conservatism
Reclaim Conservatism Blog – Using a new theme. Check it out.
Reclaim Conservatism Wiki

FloridaImagine — Web hosting, design, and Florida information for the Tampa-Orlando I-4 corridor (Orlampa).
FloridImagine.com – Like the shoes of the cobbler’s children – unfinished and underdevelopment.
FloridImagine Blog – Up and running, but way behind where it should be.
@FloridImagine on Twitter

Blog News Co-op — Original reporting for bloggers, by bloggers. Under development, but a darn good idea if I do say so myself.
Blog News Co-op Blog – at least the blog is going.

After you check out those sites, consider this an Open Thread. Get commenting people! I’ve gotta go!

100 Post Marathon #31

Today is going to be the big day for the marathon. It has to be if I’m going to reach 100 posts! I would like to thank everyone who has contributed. I have not mentioned them by name because I didn’t ask or receive permission from them and I know some people are reluctant to make that information public. I do thank all of them most sincerely.

We are at 13% of our goal, and I have been very encouraged by the support. Once again let me offer my thanks and gratitude to those who have visited, commented, linked, and donated.

Today, in addition to being the push day for this marathon, is the start of year five at bRight & Early. My first post, Making book on filibuster detente, dealt with the “Gang of 14″.

It has been a great four years. I’ve enjoyed writing here and reading what others have written elsewhere. For me it has been a way to stay engaged in the discussion and actions of our governance.

Beyond that I have been thrilled by the friendships that have been gained, even though I have never met even one other blogger in person. That has to change. I won’t start listing those individuals, it would take all day, but I would like to just mention two who gave me my earliest link support. Michelle Malkin gave me my first big link very early on, even though I didn’t record most of the visitors as I mentioned yesterday. Shortly after that Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey, who was then at his own “Captain’s Quarters”, linked to the site when he was away leading a Marriage Encounter weekend.

So, where do things stand today for bRight & Early? By the numbers:

  • 3621 posts – This will be #3622
  • 11 pages
  • 109 Categories – probably too many. Should be consolidated a bit.
  • 1414 Tags
  • 7162 approved comments – One wish is that this number were much higher.
  • 83,645 spam comments eaten.

Let’s get year five started!

If you can…

I just noticed that Sitemeter says I’m about to turn over the odometer to 200,000. As I write this I’m just 419 visitors away. I don’t have anything to offer to the 200,000th guest other than some link love. Who will it be?
