First CupIf it wasn’t for coffee, I’d have no discernible personality at all. ~ David Letterman

Don Surber Standing up to tyranny — “Iraq is not a distraction from the war on terror. It is at the heart of what this war is about: Standing up to tyranny throughout the world.”

Blue Crab Boulevard What to do about North Korea — “Opening negotiations will simply reward Kim Jong Il’s derangement and bring even greater aggression later. It is also necessary to show Iran that there are distinct consequences, not rewards, for nuclear aggressiveness.”

Captain’s Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Mexico Wants UN To Block Fence — “The American border barrier will sit on American territory, and it will be used to enforce our national border. The need for that enforcement comes from a failure of Mexico to ensure that its citizens cross the border in a legal manner, as well as a failure of the Mexican government to provide the means for their citizens to prosper on their own. Derbez opposes the border because Mexico depends on the American money these workers send home to their families as well as the safety valve the border provides that keeps angry and starving young men from threatening the political order. If Derbez thinks the UN can solve those problems, then he will be sorely disappointed when he files his complaint.”

Right Wing News (John Hawkins) North Korea Blows It — “Whatever the case may be, we still have a starving, threatening, incompetent, unpredictable, dictatorial regime that may or may not have nuclear weapons. That’s a dangerous situation and it really needs to be taken a little more seriously by everyone involved, from the Bush Administration to the Democrats who’ve offered no support for Bush’s policy or workable alternatives to it, to the “international community.” ”

In The Bullpen (Chad Evans) More Fizz Than Pop — “Perhaps the NK nuclear test had the same success as the nation’s long-range rocket? That test, if you recall, was also timed when the six nations working to reach an agreement were scheduled to meet. It’s hard to take a man who wears platform shoes to appear taller seriously, and Kim Jong-Il’s own rushed tests give credence to my weariness.”

First CupMaking coffee has become the great compromise of the decade. It’s the only thing “real” men do that doesn’t seem to threaten their masculinity. ~ Erma Bombeck

Right Wing News (John Hawkins) Mexico Get Worked Up Over A Wall — “Well, take heart folks — if the wall is upsetting Mexico this much, that means that they think it’s going to work. So, we may have a lot more work to do to take care of the illegal immigration problem, but the wall will be one of the biggest steps in the right direction that we’ve taken in decades.”

Captain’s Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Nuclear Terrorism Or Better Enforcement? — “A disturbing report in the Times of London raises the question about whether terrorists have increased their efforts to find nuclear material, or whether the West has improved its ability to stop them. Confirmed incidents of nuclear trafficking have increased sharply since 2002, with most of the material falling into the “dirty-bomb” category:”

Blogs for Bush (Mark Noonan) Iraq’s Tribal Leaders Join Anti-Terrorism Fight — “This will get a bit ugly from time to time – as I’ve been saying for a while, the final extermination of the terrorists will happen when the Iraqis themselves take a hand at it…all we’ve done is provide enough security and shown enough staying power to finally convince the wavering masses that it is safe to go after the terrorists.”

Right Truth (Debbie) American voters are not stupid — “American voters are not stupid and I hope they will prove that in November. But ‘the latest Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that about half of likely voters say disclosures of corruption and scandal in Congress will be very or extremely important when they enter the voting booth’. Surely Americans are smart enough to understand that the actions of one man, Mark Foley, does not negate all the good that other Republicans have accomplished.”

Happy 2nd Blogiversary to:
Chaotic Synaptic Activity
and
The Bull Speaks!

Michelle Malkin AP runs to the Washington Post — “What do you do when you are a global news organization under fire for suppressing five-month-old news of the capture of one of your employees by American troops in a Ramadi apartment with an alleged al Qaeda leader and a weapons cache?

You run to a sympathetic news organization to help you whitewash the story and smear the U.S. military. Naturally.”

Captain’s Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Swift Program Auditor Found No Abuses — “The Swift program actually helped catch al-Qaeda terrorists, ending the career of the senior AQ leader in the Philippines as one example. It broke no laws and it worked, but the Times insisted on neutralizing it by sticking it on the front page of their paper. The original report never even bothered to allege any systemic abuses, and the one person discovered to have improperly searched the records had been dismissed.”

Blue Crab Boulevard Right Again — “I have been writing fairly frequently about what has been going on down in Mexico with the leftist losers who refused to concede the election and now refuse to recognize the winner. One thing I asked, time and time again, was where was the money coming from for all the antics the leftists were pulling? It seems Mexico has a pretty good idea. It is exactly who I speculated might be behind it.”

The Jawa Report (Good Lt.) Dems, NYT, WaPo Willfully Obscure NIE — “Of course – the portions that undermine their anti-war causes and Democrat campaigns. The papers, with their Democrat leakers in the Intel community, cherry-pick a 6-month old report to find select quotes, while omitting the rest of the report entirely.”

Happy 1st Blogiversary to:

In The Bullpen (Chad Evans) England Rounds up More Suspects — “England rounded up 14 more terrorism suspects in an overnight raid at a Chinese restaurant. Apparently hirabahs dine at Chinese food establishments. Hey, who would have guessed a true to form Islamist would eat anything that might fund a non-Islamic individual or company [/sarcasm]?”

Flopping Aces (Curt) The Booming Economy — “Just in time for Labor Day comes a bevy of good news about our economy and the usual groans and moans from the left. For example, this report by The Democratic Strategist that states the problem with Democrats is that they are too pessimistic:”

Blue Crab Boulevard Mexico In Turmoil — “Leftist legislator supporters of leftist loser Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador blocked President Vicente Fox of Mexico from delivering his last state of the nation speech by storming the stage. Mexico is in a bad way right now.”

Tom Rants MFers Tea Party — [I am quoting a rather lengthy excerpt so that you have a better idea of what Tom is presenting. Of course the best thing to do is read the whole thing. Jim] — “From Thursday September 7th until the general election in November, the McCain-Feingold (MF) act will make it illegal, with very narrow exceptions that the average American and even the average grassroots organization won’t qualify for, to publish opinions favoring or opposing the election of any candidate for federal office in that election. It will be generally illegal for websites such as this one to editorialize in the same way newspapers do.

[...]

Well, when our civil rights are violated, it’s time we take a page from the civil rights movement, a little civil disobedience. Maybe dump a few tea bags in a harbor. We can keep it nice for now, no need to water the Liberty Tree just yet. Every day possible from Thursday until the election, I intend to post a piece favoring or opposing some candidate for federal office in this election. I intend to focus, to the greatest extent possible, on criticizing incumbents who voted for McCain-Feingold and supporting those who opposed it.”

The Jawa Report (Howie) Remembering the 7/7 London Bombing — “Though the birth of the United States caused great pains on both sides, we and the British are one. Stand together we shall and we shall never forget!”

Outside The Beltway (Chris Lawrence) Calderón Wins Mexico Vote — “Even if AMLO were to somehow overturn the results, the impact on US-Mexican relations would probably be minimal–both candidates staked out similar positions (which mirrored those of the Fox administration) on the issues of immigration and border security, and while AMLO is something of a populist, there is little concern that he would turn out to be another Hugo Chávez in office.”

Right Wing News (John Hawkins) 10 Percent Of Mexico’s Population Is In The US? — “When it comes to immigration, the most important thing to consider is always, “What’s best for the American public?” Clearly, having so many illegal immgrants coming into this country from Mexico is not in the long-term interests of the United States.”

First CupCoffee falls into the stomach … ideas begin to move, things remembered arrive at full gallop … the shafts of wit start up like sharp-shooters, similes arise, the paper is covered with ink… ~ Honore de Balzac

One topic seemed to dominate all others on my blogrolls both today and late yesterday — the story saying that the US Border Patrol, under direction of the government, is providing the Mexican government with the locations of the Minutemen citizen patrols. Here is some of the reaction and commentary. Jim

Michelle Malkin DHS: DENY, HEDGE, SPIN — “Message to the White House: Stop blaming the messengers. Do us all a favor by ending this travesty and apologizing. And please don’t fire Mario Martinez for telling the reporter the truth.” [Michelle's original report on this is here with another update here. Another point she makes in the story quoted above is, "This White House has another burgeoning debacle on its hands." Jim]

Wizbang (Kim Priestap) US Border Control Gives Minutemen Locations to Mexican Government — “The US Border Patrol is supposed to protect US borders from illegal crossings, not encourage them. I thought this issue couldn’t possibly get any more out of control. I was wrong.”

Right Wing News (John Hawkins) The Federal Government Teams Up With Mexico To Thwart The Minutemen — “Not only should Congress demand that the Border Patrol stop working with the Mexican government to circumvent our laws, they should launch an investigation in order to find out who signed off on this unconscionable outrage.”

Iowa Voice (Brian) Who’s Running The Illegal Immigration Show Here, Anyway? — “I’m livid about this. I just fired off a terse email to Senator Grassley, demanding some answers. I’d certainly encourage others to start contacting their Senators and Representatives. This kowtowing to Mexico has simply GOT to stop. We’ve GOT to secure this border, or it’s going to ruin this country.”

Flopping Aces (Curt) Snitching On The Minutemen — “This sends the message to Mexico that we will do everything in our power to help you send us your poverty.”

Stop the ACLU (Jay) U.S. Tipping Mexico to Minuteman Patrols — “Not only absurd and intolerable, but also dangerous! Indeed this threatens our sovereignty to a great degree, however it also threatens our National security.”

Hot Air (Bryan) US Border Patrol Helps Illegals Avoid the Minutemen — I’ve seen several administrations do a lot of outrageous things, but tipping a foreign government to the legal activities of American citizens just might be the most outrageous thing I’ve ever seen any American administration do.”

Confederate Yankee Mexican Handoff — “Bush refuses to protect the territorial integrity of the United States, leaving us exposed to an importation of poverty that strains our social welfare system and artificially depresses wages. At least as important is the fact that President Bush’s border policies leave us naked to the threat of terrorist infiltration.”

Finally, this is by no means an exhaustive list. The outrage on this is palpable and justified. And while several of the posts point out the “corrections” that are trying to be made on this story, the spin just doesn’t wash.

Captain’s Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Who Comes After Goss? — “While many still wonder what prompted the resignation of Porter Goss from his position as CIA Director, others have already started looking ahead to his eventual replacement. Goss has offered to remain in place while George Bush selects his successor, but the process will likely take place over the weekend. Sources within the White House have already warned the press to be ready for an announcement as early as Monday” [Ed includes analysis of likely candidates General Michael Hayden, Mary Margaret Graham, David Shedd, and Frances Townsend. Jim]

Hot Air (Bryan) Pare Amnistia Ahora! The Cero Peso Campaign — “Let’s face it–both parties are awful when it comes to protecting our borders and enforcing our immigration laws. Neither party has learned anything from history. The 1986 amnesty and subsequent smaller amnesties have only resulted in more illegal immigration pouring across our borders.” [Yes, I realize this is a few days old. Still it's worth reading, and has a link to a doc where you can print out your own cero peso notes. Jim]

TigerHawk “Armée mexicaine” and the history of the day — “So, at some point when I wasn’t looking, Cinco de Mayo became another St. Patrick’s Day — an all-American ethnic holiday, warped into a license to drink.” [The post is about the history of the day, but I loved that line. Jim]

Blogs for Bush (Mark Noonan) A Perspective on the Illegal Immigration Demonstrations — “There is no intrinsic reason for Mexico to be poorer than the United States – indeed, with their smaller population and vast oil reserves, a case can probably be made that a rational Mexican economy would produce a per capita GDP even higher than the United States’.”

I’m late to a vote!” Yeah, like 14 hours.) Perversely, perhaps, I want to make a serious comment. So when he testified he told the press he did not know (i.e., he refused to leak his inside knowledge about a CIA agent) he lied and that is why he was indicted. For lying to the press and not leaking the classified information.”

A recent study completed by the Center for Immigration Studies has found some very interesting figures. I’ll get to that shortly.

As it turns out, the millions of poor Mexicans living in shoddy socio-economic conditions, a lot of which crossing the U.S.-Mexican border for hope, jobs, money, and a laundry list of other not-so benevolent intentions, happen to have an abundant amount of government officials doing nothing about it.

Why is Mexico’s government so recklessly negligent of the public welfare? Because the Mexican government is not a government of and for the people, it is another legitimized crime organization motivated by money flowing into the pockets of politicians.

You can guess what those do-nothing government officials make take or you can have a look at what the Center for Immigration Studies found:

* President Vicente Fox ($236,693) makes more than the leaders of France ($95,658), the U.K. ($211,434), or Canada ($75,582).

* Although they are in session only a few months a year, members of Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies make $148,000 — substantially more than their counterparts in France ($78,000), Germany ($105,000), and congressmen throughout Latin America. At the end of the last three-year term, Mexican deputies voted themselves a $28,000 ”leaving-office bonus.”

* Members of the 32 state legislatures earn on average twice the amount earned by U.S. state legislators ($60,632 vs. $28,261). The salaries and bonuses of the lawmakers in Baja California ($158,149), Guerrero ($129,630), and Guanajuato ($111,358) exceed the salaries of legislators in California ($110,880), the District of Columbia ($92,500), Michigan ($79,650), and New York ($79,500).

* Average salaries (plus Christmas stipends known as aguinaldos) place the average compensation of Mexican governors at $125,759, which exceeds by almost $10,000 the mean earnings of their U.S. counterparts ($115,778). On average, governors received aguinaldos of $14,346 in 2005 — a year when 60 percent of Mexicans received no year-end bonuses.

* In 2002 Mexico earmarked only 6.1 percent of its GDP for health care. Mexico trailed Argentina (8.9%), Barbados (6.9%), Brazil (7.9%), Colombia (8.1%), Costa Rica (9.3%), Cuba (7.50 %), El Salvador (8.0%), Haiti (7.6%), and Nicaragua (7.9%).

* Mexico devoted just 5.3 percent of GDP to education in 2002, behind Barbados (7.6%), Cuba (9%), Honduras (7.2%), and Uruguay (8.5%).

And the reconquistas want to give “Aztlan” back to Mexico???
Yeah right, there’s something more to it than simply nationalism or anti-Euro racism.

May 1st Boycott Back On, Let’s Boycott ‘Cinco de Mayo’

Crosposted From: The Uncooperative Blogger

This one is long, but worth it…

A boycott on May Day has likewise been called in many cities across the country as part of pro-immigrantpro-illegal alien invader demonstrations. Called a paro in Spanish, theterm is generally understood to mean both refusing to buy and refusingto work or go to school.

Activists are urging illegal alien invaders across the United Statesto skip work, avoid spending money and march in the streets todemonstrate their importance to the U.S. economy.

But the plan for a paro is not universally endorsed by all immigrantIllegal Alien invader-rights groups. In Chicago, the organizing coalition known as the Movimiento 10 de Marzo, or the March 10 Movement, decided not to call for a boycott or general strike in the city, largely because of the involvement of labor unions that said they could not legally endorse such an action because their contracts prohibit them.

The question of whether to participate in nationwide calls for a May1 boycott was hashed out at a contentious April 22 meeting, where the local coalition decided to support calls for boycotts in other cities, but refrain from a boycott in Chicago. But some organizers described this as caving in to unions and politicians that were pushing for amore moderate stance.

“I wish the unions had stayed out of it and let people celebrate May Day the way they wanted,” said Rafael Cervantes, an activist from Monterrey, Mexico who has lived in Chicago for decades. “The boycott was a symbol for people, an icon, a way to say we matter, we are an important cog in this machine, we produce and we consume. It’s ironicthat the unions are saying they could not support it because it would be illegal, but the whole reason we’re marching is that people are here`illegally.’”

Did Rafael just say that the whole reason we are marching is because people are here illegally? So, that means they should illegally march in our streets? Hmm…

In Los Angeles, where other mass protests are planned, some groups will be carrying out work stoppages and boycotts and attending a daytime downtown march. Others who plan to go to work and school will attend a separate demonstration in the late afternoon.

Thousands of truck drivers working out of the Port of Los Angeles and cab drivers who serve Los Angeles International Airport are expected to strike for the day or possibly the week.

“If truckers aren’t trucking, the port isn’t working,” said Los Angeles attorney and organizer Jim DeMaegt. “If cab drivers don’t drive, LAX will be shut down. Nobody knows precisely what will happen, but there is a lot of support.”

Well, we will know which employers hire illegal alien invaders now won’t we? I say we fine the companies that are affected by this protest. I hope they are put out of business, and as to the Airport and port? If it cannot stand one day of this than I say screw it. I also say we re-think allowing Mexican truck drivers on our roads. They do not get the same level of training as our truck drivers and pose a serious safety threat. Heck, most of them cannot even read our signs!

In Arizona, the coalition that organized a 100,000-strong protest on April 10 in Phoenix waffled about supporting a boycott. Last week, the Somos America (We are America) coalition announced it was supporting demonstrations and other forms of protest, but not endorsing the boycott due to fear of a backlash and concern for immigrants‘ illegal alien invaders’ job security.

But, according to the group’s chairman, Roberto Reveles, who spoke to the Arizona Republic, the recent arrests of 1,187 undocumentedimmigrants in federal raids on pallet maker IFCO Systems locations in 26 states including Arizona, spurred the group to change its mind.
Reveles told the Republic that his group wanted “to make a statementagainst the latest raids,” which came “at a time when they should be working toward immigration reform rather than instilling additional fear in the lives of undocumented workers and their families.” I saythe raids should be going on daily. All this is only making me angrier, they are not winning my heart or mind.

At the March 10 Chicago demonstration, during which more than 100,000 immigrants illegal alien invaders and their supporters hit the streets, a group handed out flyers for a hastily organized boycott of Miller beer. Demonstrators targeted Miller Brewing Co. because the company’s PAC had donated $2,000 to Wisconsin Republican Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., sponsor of the only decent bill, 4437, that passed the House of Representatives last year.

Merchants on 26th Street, Chicago’s main Mexican commercial drag inthe Little Village neighborhood, said that by evening customers were refusing to buy Miller. The message reached beer distributors quickly, and by the following week officials from the company’s Milwaukee headquarters had met with coalition organizers and put out a statement opposing the House’s legislation.

For this reason we, U.S. citizens, should boycott Miller Brewing Company products. I am starting TODAY.

“The only thing we are looking for is to end this dehumanizing situation and get the recognition of the migrant labor force,” Federal Deputy Maria Garcia said. “People who go looking for work should not be treated like criminals with the risk of being tried in federal courts.”

It is called free will, God gave it to you and it is up to you to use it wisely. Illegally sneaking into a country to work illegally opens you up to be used and abused.

Hollywood stars, including Edward James Olmos and Salma Hayek, have joined ranks with a boycott planned for May 1 to protest the proposed tightening of US immigration laws.

Oscar-winning Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla and Colombian actor John Leguizamo also lent their names to the cause.

Hayek, who is Mexican, said she knows herself what it means to “open a path” in the United States, as she told the Mexican press.

Before departing on a European promotional tour, Hayek was considering how she could support the May 1 boycott, a source close to the actress said.

“We have to demand respect and dignity, because we are all workers and because we are already part of the DNA of this country,”Santaolalla, Oscar winner for the score to “Brokeback Mountain,” told AFP.

Leguizamo, who played in “Moulin Rouge” (2001) and “Carlito’s Way”(1993) among other films said that the was “proud of the protests” in which millions of Latinos took to the streets in recent weeks to protest some of the tougher immigration measures being debated in Washington.

“It is insulting that the law would call an immigrant a criminal,” he said. “It’s horrible.”
Big surprise Hollywood doesn’t get it. We call people that come to this country illegal aliens as defined by our laws. I call them illegal alien invaders, what they are not is immigrants.

Teachers’ unions in major cities have said children should not be punished for walking out of class.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District said school principals had been told that they should not try to keep students in class but instead should walk with the children to help keep order.

Our wonderful teacher’s Union at work undermining our country as usual.

In New York, leaders of the May 1 Coalition said a growing number of businesses had pledged to close and allow their workers to attend a rally in Manhattan’s Union Square. But if all the city’s immigrants illegal alien invaders walk off the job, many New Yorkers will go hungry, or at least be forced to eat at home for a change. Which I consider to be a good thing. Anything to inconvenience a NY Citydweller is ok by me! They could use a little reality in their lives. I should know I used to live and work in NYC.

Personally, I will not miss any illegal alien invader or their supporters. But I say we all save up for May 1st to do our shopping. Don’t shop this weekend, shop Monday after work or school. Think how nice that shopping day will be for us. We just all turn out and spend our money on Monday to teach them a lesson; we don’t need you.

Mexican lawmakers issued a declaration of support for immigrant illegal alien invaders protests planned in the United States on Monday and said they will send a delegation to Los Angeles to show their solidarity. Also, activists south of border have called for a boycottof all U.S. businesses on Monday in support of the protests.

I think U.S. Businesses should re-think doing business in Mexico, lets see how they like that idea!

Mexicans living in the United States sent back home about $20 billion in remittances last year. That is money REMOVED from our economy, and fed into the Mexican economy. Do you still think they are helping our economy?

Did you know the Mexican consulate helps illegal alien invaders to sue our people, in our courts?

Okay Mexico, you want to play? I say we all Boycott Cinco de Mayo! That is the big May 5th celebration Mexico celebrates in which we consume huge amounts of Mexican food and products. So, on May 5th we will buy NO Mexican products this year. We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo by staying home and ignoring anything Mexican. Heck why don’t we extend this idea to boycotting Mexican products all together until this mess is fixed. No Mexican beer, produce, or any other product made in Mexico. Mexico should have stayed out of our politics.
