What is that little red, white, and blue button at the bottom of the posts?

That’s a link to submit a post to the GOP Hub. Uh, Ok. Then what, pray tell, is GOP Hub?

GOP Hub is a brand new social bookmarking web application focused on promoting the exchange of ideas among conservatives. It is our hope that it will grow to challenge liberal bookmarking applications, specifically Digg and Reddit, and serve as the foundation for a strong GOP web-presence in the run-up to the 2008 elections.

Simple enough. If you see a story here that you like click it and submit it. You can submit posts from other sites as well, even those that aren’t signed up with GOP Hub.

Blogiversary Database Contest

NOTE: This post will remain on top through the end of the contest on New Year’s Eve. New posts are below. Really. Go Look.

The Winners Have Been Announced!!

11:20 EST: With about 40 minutes remaining in the contest and in 2006 it looks as if we are going to come up a little short. Still going from 150 confirmed blogs to 185 in just a few short weeks is terrific. I would really like to thank everyone who has participated in any way. I’ll update you again just before midnight.

10:12 EST: Two more hours have gone by, but we did pick up another confirmed blog. John Deeth Blog is also celebrating his 4th Blogiversary today. Congratulations and Thanks!

4 Hours Left: We’ve picked up one more. Thanks, Gaius! The math is easy; sixteen confirmed blogs needed in the next four hours = four an hour. It’s going to be a nail biter.

5 hours to go: Still no change. Are we going to make it? Are we going to come up short? Stay tuned here to find out.

T-7 Hours: No Changes!! Come on people, let’s get going. Push us over the top.

UPDATE 12/31/2006: With less than 16 hours left in the Blogiversary Database Contest I have a confession to make. I run another blog, one associated with my travel business, Getaway ‘N Go Travel. I forgot to add the Getaway ‘N Go Travel Blog to the Database!! That has been corrected. It is particularly ironic that today is that blog’s one year blogiversary. And no, I won’t be eligible to win any of the prizes. Adding that blog brings the total blogs to 201 with 183 confirmed (only 17 more to go!!) and 86 (42.79%) displaying the code. Please let’s hit 200 by midnight. If you have any suggestions on how we can push the total over the top, please let me know. You can write to lakelandjim at gmail dot com. Thanks again to all the participants. You’re the best.

EVENING UPDATE 12/30/06: It has been another good day for the Blogiversary Database. The total has climbed to 199 of which 182 are confirmed. 85 blogs are carrying the code. There’s less than 30 hours to put us over the 200 confirmed blog mark. Email your blogging friends, write a post about the BDb, but most of all make sure that YOU have added your information.

UPDATE 12/30/06: Emails have gone out to those who have not confirmed their information. That brought on one quick confirmation. Here are the latest stats:
Number of blogs in the database: 196 197 (179 180 Confirmed – 17 Unconfirmed)
Number of blogs displaying the code: 84 (42.86 42.64%)
Hours left in the contest: Around 37 36
We need to get 20 more confirmed blogs into the database in the next 36 hours to hit our goal. If you haven’t added your information yet, please consider doing so today! And PLEASE spread the word.

UPDATE 12/27/06: A great day! From 184 to 191 in one day. Excellent. All but one of the new blogs are confirmed, bringing that total to 175! 43.46% of the blogs are displaying the code. That’s 83 sites that are letting their readers know who is celebrating. Thank you all.

UPDATE 12/26/06: We have now grown to 184 blogs (169 Confirmed – The 15 unconfirmed blogs will be getting a reminder today or tomorrow). 80 of the blogs are displaying the code! That is outstanding. Several of you have written posts about the contest. Those that I know about are listed below. If you’ve written something, and it doesn’t appear below, please leave a comment, or drop me a note. Thank you everyone!

UPDATE 12/15/06: The number of blogs in the database is now 168 — 69 of them are displaying the code! Thank you so much!!

However, there hasn’t been a lot of publicity regarding the contest. No one has written about the contest and linked to this post. So, I have changed the deadline to New Year’s Eve (or when there are 200 confirmed blogs in the database. Currently there are 155). Come on folks. You know you’re looking for something to write about.

ANNOUNCING: The Blogiversary Database Contest!!

The Blogiversary Database continues to grow. There are 164 blogs in the database as of this writing, and I would like to see it pass 200 by the end of the year. As more blogs join, and as those in the database add the display code to their sites, the number of people who are aware of the database increases every day.

Naturally, posts get a lot more attention than what’s in a sidebar, as it should be. So, I’m offering a little incentive to get folks to write a post about the database. That’s where this contest comes in. Here come the details:

HOW TO JOIN THE FUN:
There are several ways to get in on the action.

  1. The first way is the simplest — Add your blog to the Blogiversary Database. One of the confirmed blogs (those that follow the confirmation email sent after you submit your information) in the database at the deadline will be chosen at random. This will include all current participants and those who sign up before the deadline. How easy is that?
  2. A separate random drawing will be done for the blogs who include the Blogiversary Database display code on their site. You can see a list of all the BDb blogs, separated into those who have and those who don’t have the display code, here. I check the blogs fairly often, but if you think you are not on the right list please let me know. You can send an email to lakelandjim at gmail dot com.
  3. The third way to win is to write a post about the Blogiversary Database. You can write what ever you want, but must include a link to the Add Your Blog page, the Blogiversary Database information page, and to this post. You should also create a trackback to this post. If your blogging software can’t generate a trackback you can use Wizbang’s Standalone Trackback Pinger. Those posts will also appear below.

THE DEADLINE:
The contest will run until the earlier of either 200 confirmed blogs in the database (of the 164 currently in the database 150 are confirmed), or midnight EST on Christmas New Year’s Eve 12/24/2006 12/31/2006. The winners will be chosen at random in the week following the cutoff. If the 200 blog threshold is crossed before the 24th it will be announced here.

THE PRIZES:
You were waiting for this part, weren’t you? Three winners will be chosen from the categories listed above. You can only win once, and will be removed from the remaining drawings. The prizes will be awarded in this order:

  1. Write a Post — The winner will receive a free one month blogad.
  2. Display the Code — The prize for this category is a free two week blogad.
  3. Join The Database — Win a free one week blogad.

What? You thought I had money or something?

In addition, all three winners will have a link on the display code through the month of January, 2007.

THE DISCLAIMER:
All decisions about the contest, including, but not limited to, the winners, the cutoff, the awarding of prizes, and any possible cancellation are mine and mine alone. No guarantee is made that bRight & Early blog will be accessible throughout the month of January (although that is certainly my plan). The awarded prizes have no monetary value, and no substitute prizes will be awarded. I will make a reasonable effort to notify the winners, but will not be responsible if the winner can not be contacted. The contest and the prizes can be withdrawn at any time without notification. bRight & Early makes no claim regarding the value of participation in this contest and accepts no liability for any condition arising from that participation.

What are you waiting for? Start spreading the word now!

First CupAh! How sweet the coffee’s taste is,
Sweeter than a thousand kisses,
Milder than sweet muscatel.
Coffee, coffee, I must have it,
And if someone wants to treat me,
Ah, my cup with coffee fill! ~ Johann Sebastian Bach (Koffee Kantate)

Blogrolling is was down again. Here is an abbreviated First Cup:

Don Surber Thank you, Big Pharma — “It is Christmas. How about those whose lives are made better by prescription drugs writing a research facility to thank them?”

Captain’s Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Governor Moonbeam Becomes AG Sunbeam? — “Note that of all the priorities for law-enforcement facing California, Brown selects global warming as the most pressing. I guess issues like gang warfare, insurance fraud, and other crimes that cost Californians their lives and millions of dollars each year come in a distant second to ecopolicy. Californians might have gained the false impression that they elected an Attorney General instead of an environmental lobbyist.”

Blue Crab Boulevard (Gaius) The Magic Hat Loses Its Magic — “It had to happen sooner or later, but the corner it comes from will sting. John Kerry has very publicly lost the support of Ted Kennedy. The swimmer ditched the boater.”

You can go there and select a card that will be printed and then included with care packages sent to troops on active duty throughout the world.

Help A Guy Out

Brian, the voice behind Iowa Voice, recently finished his college studies. The good news is that he finished five weeks earlier than he expected. The bad news is he finished five weeks earlier than he expected. Why is that bad news? I’ll let him explain:

However, with the end of the college course comes the end of the financial assistance. I was not ready for this (as I said…we ended about five weeks sooner than I was expecting). So, that means we’re going to start coming up short on funds soon.

Now, you’re under no obligation to do so, of course, but please consider making a donation via the PayPal tip jar on the left. Even if it’s just a couple of bucks, it will help out.

Brian is a good friend, and a very good blogger. Please, go on over and wish him the best while you make that tip jar a little bit fuller.

Here’s The Deal

NOTE: This post, originally published on Sunday, 11/19, will remain on top through next Sunday night. New posts are below, so please scroll down. Thanks.

FINAL UPDATE: It looks like we may fall short of that 51,000 visit goal. Especially since that would mean almost 9000 visits in the next six and a half hours. Thanks for playing anyhow.

One week from today I’ll be turning 51. That’s right, 51. It’s time for you to show respect for your elders with gifts. Blogging kind of gifts. Here are some suggestions:

  • Blogiversary Database. There are now over 150 blogs in the Blogiverary Database. If you haven’t done so already, please add your information. If you have added your blog to the database, have you added the code to your blog that displays each day’s celebrants? Will you? Thanks!
  • Add bRight & Early to your blogroll!
  • Click on the affiliate links (they’re at the top, under the Day by Day cartoon, and in the right sidebar, under the button that says “Support bR&E”), and buy something if it strikes your fancy. Or, get something from the bRight & Early store. Of course hitting the tip jar, over on the right in the side bar, is never discouraged. ;-)
  • Advertise with bRight & Early. Among the lowest blogad prices in the blogisphere! Conversely, if you’d like to donate a blogad, send the information to lakelandjim at gmail dot com.
  • You do know that it’s time for the 2006 Weblog Awards, don’t you? Hint, hint.

Any of those would be greatly appreciated, but the gift I’d really enjoy is the currency of the blogisphere — links and traffic. At the time of this post my sitemeter is sitting at 41,827 42,010. I’d like to see it over 50,000 and 51,000 would be very appropriate. That means an average of just under 50 over 84 visits an hour between now and next Sunday night. I’ll provide the content, you provide the links! What a deal!! Spread the word. You’ve got less than 184 107 hours.

In the immortal words of Jean-Luc Picard, “Make it so.”

NOTE: This post will remain on top all week. I’m not going to send out a mass email on this post, so I am depending on you to spread the word. Those who write a post and create a trackback to this post will appear below.

Sunday Morning Stuff

Here’s some stuff for a relatively slow Sunday Morning:

Blogads — You can purchase blogads here at bRight & Early. They’re not expensive, and I could use the help. :-D

Update Your Blogroll — Have you changed the url for bRight & Early on your blogroll? I know most of you have, but some (Matt) still have not. ;-)
Of course if you haven’t added bR&E to your blogroll, a slow Sunday morning would be the perfect time to do so.

Florida Bloggers — Are you a conservative Florida blogger? You’re invited to join the Red State Floridian blogroll.

Blogs4Blogs — This blogroll is for those who think that our free speech, particularly our political speech on our blogs, is protected by the Constitution and should not be regulated by the FEC or the government. To join just drop me an email with your blog information.

Frappr Map — Why haven’t you stuck a pin in our Frappr Map?

Getaway ‘N Go Travel — Part of today will involve some site updates at Getaway ‘N Go Travel. Included will be the ability to book your travel online. If you’re making travel plans consider using Getaway ‘N Go Travel. You’ll get competitive prices and personalized service. You’ll also be helping a conservative entrepreneur and blogger.

Coming to Florida? — This is sort of a side note to my blog friends. If you’re planning on visiting the Florida Mouse or any destination in Central Florida, and you don’t let me know, I’m going to be most upset! Spring break and summer vacation are both approaching fast. Come on down!

Have a great Sunday.
