McKinney Won’t Be Charged

This is hardly surprising.

A grand jury declined to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney on Friday in connection with a confrontation in which she admitted hitting a police officer who tried to stop her from entering a House office building.

I guess it was her “apology” given back when even the Congressional Black Caucus was urging her not to make an issue out of the incident.

“I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all, and I regret its escalation, and I apologize,” McKinney, D-Ga., said April 6. “There should not have been any physical contact in this incident.”

The cynic in me wonders if this was an apology at all.

James Joyner isn’t shocked either, and may have hit on the real reason for the Grand Jury’s decision:

This is the same jury pool that acquitted Marion Berry on two sets of felony charges and then reelected him twice.

Captain’s Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Gray Lady Misrepresents FISA Testimony — “The New York Times has panicked into a serious misrepresentation of the testimony given to the Senate Judiciary Committee by five former FISA judges. Power Line looks at the transcript of the committee hearing and discovers that reporter Eric Lichtblau, who predicated his new book on the supposed illegality of the secret NSA terrorist surveillance program, wrote dishonestly about their appearance in yesterday’s hearing.”

Does the Christian left not support religious freedom or something? While members of Congress are not required to go through the Capitol metal detectors, they are supposed to present their credentials. McKinney was in too big a hurry to be bothered complying with one of the people who help ensure her safety.”
