Looking Back at 2007 – March/April

I’m taking a look back at 2007 this week. It’s interesting to see just what I posted about, and what was going on through the year.

March — Giving Something New A Try

Or maybe it’s not that new. Few, if any, of you know that my first post-college career was in broadcasting. Not talk radio to be sure, but I was a broadcast major and worked at several stations in the first few years after college. Inspired by Captain Ed, I’m going to give Blog Talk Radio a shot.

So, back on March 17th First Cup Radio was born. It has now become bRight @ Night, but it’s still a lot of fun. In fact there is a show tomorrow night. Tune in at 10:30pm Eastern to talk about whatever the right side of the blogosphere is writing about.

April — We Come In Peace Madame Pelosi’s meeting with the Syrians led me to create this little bit of photo fun:

We Come In Peace

Tomorrow — May/June

John McCain on Blog Talk Radio

With each election the internet and the new media become a much bigger part of the campaign process. The many voices of citizen journalists present information and stimulate discussion about issues and candidates that can not be duplicated by traditional outlets.

Virtually untapped just a dozen years ago, campaigns are embracing this trend to raise funds, increase name recognition, and give voice to their positions.

While still only a small part of overall campaign strategy, use of the new technologies and the opportunities they offer is growing at an amazing rate. Blog Talk Radio is one such outlet and campaigns of all sizes are taking notice.

Evidence of this trend? Ed Morrissey will be interviewing Senator John McCain on CQ Radio tomorrow afternoon at 2pm Eastern time. Follow the link and listen in. You can also participate in the program by calling 646-652-4889.

Happy 2nd Blogiversary to:

Thanks also to Brian at Iowa Voice, Steveegg at No Runny Eggs, and The Florida Masochist for their kind good wishes.

BlogTalkRado/First Cup RadioThe latest edition of First Cup Radio is ready for your listening enjoyment. You can listen to the broadcast by clicking the play button on the radio bar at the top of the page, or following the link to the right.

Heading Right, the blog for BlogTalkRadio’s conservative bloggers, is off and running. I’ll be adding my first thoughts there later today. Here is Ed’s introduction:

Heading Right will serve as that community’s marketplace, bringing us together to discuss our shows, our guests, our points of view. It will create an opportunity for debate, support, and focus. We hope that our bloggers will bring fresh content and fresh perspective on the issues of the day.

In The Bullpen (Chad Evans) Outcry Over the Age of the Taliban Beheader, but Not the Act

According to the Guardian, there has been global outcry over the Taliban using a 12 year-old boy to behead an alleged spy. That’s great, it really is, but how about having a repeated global outcry over the Taliban continuing to behead and slaughter Pakistanis living in the Waziristan region to instill fear among the populace using the same trumped-up charges of spying?

Pirate’s Cove (William Teach) WTW: Jailed Border Patrol Families Have It Tough

Well, Compean and Ramos were sent to jail for supposedly breaking the law, and they have been separated from their familes. Looks like their familes are being hurt, doesn’t it? Daddy will be gone for the children’s formative years (unless President Bush gets off his ass and pardons them already.) Where is the compassion for these legal citizens of the United States, who were just trying to do their jobs and provide for their families?

Illegal immigrants are definately breaking our laws. Yet so many are worried about breaking up the families. Why not the Border Patrol Agents families?
