Jack? That Jack?

That’s the word according to Blogs4Bauer’s own Amy V.

I do have a couple of questions: Are we going to have to sit in the theater for all 24 hours? And, will Cougar Bait be back too?

It’s sad to realize that when January rolls around this year I won’t be getting together with Jack, Chloe, the CTU, and, of course, the gang from Blogs.4Bauer.com. Those of you who never visited the site have no idea of how much fun the writers and (we hope) our readers had. We were all big fans, but the most irreverent group of fans you’ve ever seen. We loved the show, embraced the characters, and poked fun at every turn.

And we appreciated the women. OK, that’s not quite true. We drooled over the women like college freshman at their first strip club. But in a good way.

One of our favorites, Agent Red Hot (Annie Wersching), made an appearance on tonight’s episode of NCIS. Her cameo won’t make missing a new season of 24 go away, but it may have made the pain just a little less.

70. Taking turns picking a radio station, or selecting a tape, for everyone to listen to during a long drive.
71. Remembering someone’s phone number. I don’t even remember my own.
72. Not knowing who was calling you on the phone.
73. Actually going down to a Blockbuster store to rent a movie.

96. Libraries as a place to get books rather than a place to use the internet.
97. Spending your entire allowance at the arcade in the mall. Pac Man and Asteroids!
98. Omni Magazine. I had a subscription to Commodore Magazine.
99. A physical dictionary — either for spelling or definitions.
100. When a ‘geek’ and a ‘nerd’ were one and the same.

Tonight begins the Jack Bauer AR (After Red Hot) era. The gang at Blogs4Bauer will be liveblogging, of course.

The big question is, does Jack dissolve into a quivering end-of-Extreme-Home-Makeover blob, or does he reach deep down and find his inner Jack? I hope for the later, but fear for the former. That’s why my guess on the Jack Bauer Kill Counter is a measly 1. I figure that any kills are going to be offset by crying and apologizing. Get your guess in before the festivities begin at around 8:45 eastern.

OK, I really don’t want you to have a Wyattastic day. Or maybe I do. I guess it depends on what the definition of “is” is. Wyattastic, for those of you not in the know, is a newly coined word. Here is the Urban Dictionary definition of Wyattastic:

1. When an episode of 24 turns out to have no action, just a bunch of filler. This usually occurs early in the season when useless subplots are being hashed out, as if anyone cares.

2. Based on the fact that when a certain contributor at a site called blogs4bauer participates in a liveblog of an episode of 24, the episode usually sucks…bad.
“Wow, tonight’s episode was Wyattastic!”

“Dana Walsh is a moron and this episode is so Wyattastic”
“Looks like we have another Wyattastic episode, unless Jack Bauer pulls another knife out of his belly”

The inspiration for this linguistic gem is blogs.4bauer.com contributor and Support Your Local Gunfighter blogger Wyatt Earp. He has a long and well documented history of liveblogging only the most sucktastic episodes of 24. However, sucktastic only takes you so far. Wyattastic episodes are several factors worse.

Of course the meaning of a word depends heavily on the context. In one instance you may be talking about how unbelievably bad something is: The President and Democrats are trying to shove the wyattastic health care bill down our throats. In another instance you may be using the milder definition that merely indicates something boring and uneventful: Things were so busy at work this week. I hope my weekend is wyattastic.

After my out of touch week, I am about through playing catch up. I’ve waded through pages of email, spam, and a very full feed reader, performed maintenance on my various blogs (including all the spam registrations at The Regiment), watched some football, hockey, and three out of the first four hours of 24.

I know, most of you probably didn’t realize I wasn’t around. After all, when you’re just looking for pictures of Cote de Pablo, Liv Tyler, and Gabriel Anwar you may just miss the fact that I haven’t posted anything in a week. Well to keep you folks happy:

For the rest of you, a brief explanation. I will freely admit that it started with a mistake on my part. A mix-up with due dates and payments made and I didn’t pay Brighthouse on time. I really didn’t realize we were behind. Beyond that, we missed, or didn’t get, any notice that the bill was due. That’s where I stop taking the blame.

I was given the impression that I needed to go into their office. The problem was I was at work on Friday and couldn’t get off in time to get in there before they closed, besides which they decided to shut everything off mid morning. No Phone, no television, no internet. Still thinking, erroneously it turns out, that I needed to go into the office I went the weekend without being able to get online, missing my bRight@Night show, and missing the weekends playoff games. The cruelest cut was not seeing the premier of 24 season 8.

Of course it doesn’t end there. Monday was Martin Luther King day — another day for their office to be closed. And another two hours missed of the latest Jack. As you can imagine I was there first thing Tuesday morning. That’s where it get really good.

I was told two things that really got my blood pressure elevated. One, I never needed to go into the office (despite what we were first told). I could have taken care of things online or over the phone. Of course the facts that I couldn’t get online or use the home phone were just cruel irony. The second thing I learned was that the earliest they could get out to cut the service back on was Wednesday. Now understand that cutting service back on involved the complicated process of opening a box on the side of the house and reattaching a coaxial cable. When they finally did that (the good part is coming next) the procedure took a hot minute. So now you can add to the list of things missed the Massachusettes Massachusetts election returns. I didn’t find out about Brown’s great win until Wednesday morning when I got to work.

I was told that they were going to make sure that someone would hook things back up by 8pm. Around seven, with nothing going yet, I got on my cell and gave them a call. After listening to the same 60 bars of hold music over and over I was told that the note to come out on Wednesday never made it to dispatch and that there was no way anyone would be out that night.

I made it very clear that that was unacceptable. They made it very clear that there was nothing I could do about it. Turns out they were right.

Well, yesterday morning before noon they fixed things. In less than 60 seconds.

So, I’m back. I spend last night catching up on, well, everything. I watched the first three out of four episodes of 24 (I still have to catch up with the Blogs4Bauer liveblogging), read (and deleted) a ton of email, and tried to catch up on the items in my feed reader.
