Joe Wilson is the Representative from South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional district. He has been in that seat since the death of Floyd Spence. Working to elect Floyd Spence was my first active involvement in politics. Later, as a County Party Chairman and State Committeeman, I met and got to know Joe, if only a little.
My impression is that Joe Wilson is a passionate conservative politician, and typically very measured and aware of what he says. On occasion, the passionate side overcomes the measured. I believe that is what happened last night.
“I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health-care bill,” Wilson said in a statement. “While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable.”
Wilson shouted “you lie” at a point in the speech when Obama said his plan to extend insurance coverage “would not apply to those who are here illegally.”
Last night on Twitter, this was getting more attention than the President’s speech. My question, in the poll over on the right, is, “What do you think about Rep. Joe Wilson’s Outburst?”
Vote, and leave any additional thoughts here in the comments.

President Obama is unhappy with America. He wants to change it to be like the countries in Europe. If he were the Prime Minister of the UK, he would be subjected to a whole lot more unhappy comments and boos from the House of Lords and the House of Commons than he was last night. The Repulblicans are just plain unhappy about how this president is turnig our country away from the roots and principles that made America great. He probably still does not know why millions of foreigners want to come here to live.
It’s not just the Republicans who are fed up, it is many of the American people, including those who ignored the warning signs and voted for this inexperienced empty suit.
Finally somebody in the R party said something! We the People have been speaking out for far too long with NO input from the R party.
This was minor compared to how the great pretender would be treated in other country’s legislative bodies.
I think it had to be said. We need to forget the distraction of “he shouldn’t have shouted out in that place,” and concentrate on exposing OBAMACORN™ for what it is.
For better or worse, like it or not, “You Lied” has brought attention to one of the biggest issues that has gone silent. So many are fact checking and finding the POTUS did lie, or at least didn’t tell all he should have. It has recieved attention from even the MSM that was in his hip pocket. So much so that the White House has come out just today with new proposals on illegal’s health care. Either to try and satisfy us or cool off the MSM. Won’t work on me, He’s still a “Dill Weed”. Shane
Hey Jim,
Shane here from the old Fred Thompson Blogs. I have voiced my opinion on my Blog.“Fact Check Proves; Joe Was Right! Obama “Lied”"
Thanks for still being involved, By the way you are still on my BlogRoll, Shane
Glad to know you’re still involved too. Let’s keep things going!
Wow I wonder how all those you think what Joe Wilson did was ok would have felt if this was 6 years ago and some Dem had said the same thing to President Bush while he was lying to the American people about the “need” to invade Iraq. You guys crack me up.
At least Obama is holding town hall meetings and trying to build consensus unlike Bush who (as the decider) just moved his disastrous policies forward with little regard for what anyone thought.
You mean when the Dems did the same and worse? Selective Memory?
Do you really believe Obama is trying to build a consensus? I can’t remember any president who has been more divisive and derisive of the opposing party. His one term presidency will go down in history as an example of arrogance and inexperience.
No I don’t have selective memory. Find me a clip where a Dem shouted “you lie” to president Bush during national televised address let alone at a joint session of Congress.
Too be candid I am a firm believer in Freedom of speech (a fundamental difference between many people on the other side of this issue who only support freedom of speech when they agree with what is being said). Senator Wilson has every right to call President Obama anything he wants. I find it distasteful and disrespectful but that doesn’t change the fact that he has a right to say what ever he wants. He will just have to answer to public opinion about his tactics. Maybe it helps him, maybe not.
And yes I do think Obama is trying to build consensus. Once again, show me a clip of a town hall meeting about the invasion of Iraq. Heck, just show me a town hall meeting where all the people weren’t screen to ensure they wouldn’t ask our former president a question that went against is agenda or used a word he couldn’t understand.
.
In terms of arrogance and inexperience I think that 1st prize will go to our former President.
Bravo Governor Wilson. President Obama is a liar. He has broken most if not all his promises made during his campaign and the short time he’s been in office.
right – on Joe
