What’s In A Name?

On Monday the house defeated the “Bailout Bill”. You may have read about it, or possibly seen it mentioned on TV. But somewhere in the past 36 hours the legislation got a makeover.
Oh sure, there are changes in the bill itself which I’m sure we’ll hear much more about through the day. But the big, important change is how the media and politicians refer to the legislation. “Bailout Bill” make way for the “Rescue Plan”.
Should this change in nomenclature be successful we can expect to see a rash of other changes between now and November.
- Barack Hussein Obama will change his name to Barry Fitzgerald Obama. “I’ll still have an unusual but memorable middle name, but without all the perceived negatives, plus I’ll get to pay homage to my under-explored (formerly “ignored”) anglo roots.”
- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be known as Fuzzy Puppy and Cuddly Kitten. “Who doesn’t like puppies and kittens?”
- The New York Times will change it’s name to The DNC Times. “The underlying change occured some time ago, it’s time the masthead reflected that fact.”
- Big Oil, Big Tobacco, and any other demonized industry will now simply be refered to as Satan. On the other hand, Satan will now be called “that really bad dude”, and any really bad dude will be tagged Hitler.
- In the very near future Joe Bidden will be known as Hillary Clinton. “And that’s all I have to say about that.”
- Jack Bauer will be known as. . .Jack Bauer. You don’t screw around with Jack Bauer. Period.
2008. It’s all about change baby.

While I support your cynicism, and agree that “rescue” is not the right nomenclature, calling this a “bailout” is equally incorrect. Paulson et al have horribly botched the PR side of this issue, helped by Nancy Pelosi and company.
If the plan works as Paulson originally laid it out (big IF, I agree) this plan should/could be at least revenue neutral, perhaps revenue positive. The plan should have been sold as a “workout” not dissimilar to how a loan that is in default gets a plan agreed to. Many times the full loan is paid back while the payment or terms are extended. That is the “Plan”…if the Dems can keep their fingers out of this.
The only thing we’re missing in this soap opera is for Pelosi to come out prior to the next vote and say “Heck of a job Pauli!”

Sarah Palin should change her name to Jack Bauer. Then maybe the MSM will stop frakkin’ with her.
