On Bloggers No Longer Blogging

The first debate is over, and the “bailout” is in beta testing, or something, and I’m waiting for the Phillies to clinch the NL East when they play the Nationals later this afternoon. Time to step away from the political for just a moment.

I was looking at the “Busiest Commenters” over in the far sidebar and thinking about those who are on the list. Like most bloggers I am thrilled by people who come by, and particularly gratified when someone takes the time to leave a comment.

There’s a special pleasure in getting to know, through reading, emails, and the like, other bloggers. Sometimes they are the only ones who understand why we do what we do. Some great friendships can be formed with people you’ve never even met face to face. Fausta calls them Friends I Haven’t Met Yet, and that’s as good as any description I can come up with.

The five commenters listed all fit into that category. Steveegg, Wyatt, and Dana are all great bloggers who I read regularly and leave my own comments much too infrequently.

As for the two others, The MaryHunter was a great writer and one of the very first friends of this blog. Sadly for the blogosphere, family and work commitments combined to shut TMH’s Bacon Bits some time ago. The domain has been taken over by some squatting company.

Chad Evans did a great job of exposing Islamic terrorism and making the connections that need to be made. In The Bullpen still exists, and while Chad hasn’t posted anything in over a year the information available there is still relevant. Hopefully he has only taken a long step back from blogging and will return at some time.

Even if you aren’t in that top five, let me assure you your comments are welcome. TMH and Chad, I hope you both stop by again, too.

Fret not, sir. I don’t comment here enough, either.

I used to read and comment on every blog in my sidebar every day. When the sidebar got out of control large, it got more and more difficult. Now, I’m lucky if I can read all of my sidebar blogs in a week.

We do what we can. ya know?

Wyatt - I do indeed know. But there isn’t anything better to most bloggers, including me, than comments.

If only there were more hours in the day. Something always gives, especially with a blogroll and feed reader as unwieldy as mine (even with speed reading). Sometimes it’s actual blogging, sometimes it’s commenting, sometimes it’s the Scramble. At least it isn’t reading, yet.

  4. Jim Lynch says:

Steveegg - not only the things you mentioned, but all of that “real life” stuff as well.

  5. Fausta says:

One of the most fun things about blogging is that many of the Friends I Haven’t Met Yet, are now friends - for instance, I’ve met Jane Goodwin http://www.janegoodwin.net/, Steve http://www.hogonice.com/, Jim http://www.parkwayreststop.com/, and Denny http://www.grouchyoldcripple.com/. All of them are wonderful people.

  6. Dana says:

Same here: I don’t get here frequently enough! It’s hell when you have to actually work for a living, and can’t just blog!

But it hasn’t been completely without profit; I actually got paid a royalty from a foreign source for use of my site. Can’t beat that!
