WordPress 2.6

WordPress 2.5 was released not all that long ago on March 29th. Several weeks ago I inadvertently updated bRight & Early to 2.6 beta 2 instead of my test blog. Everything worked fine so I updated with beta 3. Release candidate 1 came out and I had the first opportunity to install that this morning.

Whoops, too slow. After installing RC1 I went back to the admin page and saw that WordPress 2.6 (the release version) was available for installation.

As much as I liked the improvements made in 2.5, this latest version is even better. One very nice addition is the new revision system. If you make a change to a post you have the ability to see what changes have been made. A visual aid might help:

Along with being able to see what you’ve changed you can easily go back to an older revision if you’ve really screwed something up. Notice too, you can add captions to images as I did here.

The “add media” functions have some improvements as well. One simple one is that the dialogue box now fits completely on my smallish screen. And for theme tweakers, you now see a screenshot of the new theme before you actually commit to it.

That only scratches the surface. For a look at other new features, take a look at the official WordPress blog.

It looks like I have a half-dozen blogs to update this afternoon after work.
