Obamawhoopsies
By Jim Lynch on Jul 21, 2008 in 2008, Barack Obama
I was on a conference call the other day at work - editing a spread sheet for a different program than the one the call was about - when I was asked a question. I knew what I needed to say, but at that moment the ol’ brain acted like a Commodore 64 trying to run Vista. I mention this to say that I understand that some of the Obamawhoopsies™ can be attributed to the kind of brain-farts we are all accustomed to having.
Still, I do expect better from from a Constitutional Law Lecturer who believes he is going to serve 8-10 years as president of the 57 states. Especially when the actions are planned events instead of off the cuff remarks.
Ed Morrissey notes today that Obama flunks history, again. After running away from the kerfuffle of speaking at the Brandenburg Gate team Obama picked a new spot for his rally, the Siegessäule monument.
Obama will speak about “historic” US-German relations, but once again, Obama’s own grasp of history has been proven deficient. Not only does the site contain a monument to Prussian victories over other American allies in Europe, its placement was decided by Adolf Hitler — in order to impress crowds in his idealized version of Berlin called Germania:
As usual, Ed gets beyond the gaffe du jour to the meat of the matter.
The more basic question is why Obama feels the need to conduct a campaign event among Germans. Meeting with foreign leaders makes sense for a man with no foreign policy experience whatsoever, but that doesn’t require massive rallies among people who aren’t voting in this election. In his rush to look impressive for no one’s purposes but his own, Obama has made himself look ignorant and arrogant all over again.
I’m sure his cadre of alphabet media roadies will be all over this.
[Cue the crickets.]
