Hillary Raises Dream Team Possibility Again

Why is Hillary bringing up the possibility of a Clinton/Obama ticket again?
Speaking to voters in Mississippi, where Sen. Barack Obama is expected to do well in next week’s primary, Clinton said, “I’ve had people say, ‘Well I wish I could vote for both of you. Well, that might be possible some day. But first I need your vote on Tuesday.”
It is the second time this week that she has hinted at a joint ticket with the Illinois senator; he has not ruled it out but says it is premature to be having those discussions.
I posted my thoughts on this after the first invocation of the scenario. That she mentioned it once is hardly surprising; Many people have speculated on that possibility. The question is, why has she brought it up again?
I’m starting from the assumption that Sen. Clinton doesn’t do anything without purpose. Given that, let’s look at a few options.
A. She actually thinks it is a good idea.
Of course how good an idea depends on which position her name will appear on the ticket, but it does dovetail with her (and the lefts) devotion to identity politics. Looking at people solely as members of certain groups, instead of as individuals, is a staple of the left. The very idea of a female and a black candidate running together for the highest office in the land has some folks experiencing Chris Matthews like leg-thrills. If this is the correct option, her desire to be a part of something so historical is surely the key motivation. Frankly, I think this is the least likely reason.
B. She thinks she is losing.
Team Clinton does not like losing. But even more than that they don’t like being out of power. Honestly, what impression do you get from Sen. Clinton — is her idea of holding public office one of serving or ruling?
This scenario can branch out in two different directions. She could be planting the dream team idea as a way to turn things around for her campaign, or she could be trying to hitch her wagon to the winning donkey so she can be as close as possible to the prize she truly desires.
C. She thinks she is winning.
Or more accurately, she wants to give the impression that she is winning. Perhaps she wants to convince herself that she is winning. Raising the possibility of a Clinton/Obama pairing could be a way to cement the win. Besides, as a Clinton she doesn’t have to mean it.
