It is the number one tool in the magicians bag of tricks — Misdirection. In the world of political theater Bill Clinton is it’s master.
Bill Clinton said Tuesday the public would benefit from more attention to the records of the presidential candidates—like his wife’s—and less to daily skirmishes that “won’t amount to a hill of beans.”

Clinton talked up his wife’s experience and—by implication—pointed out rival Barack Obama’s relative lack of it at a campaign stop in Keene.
“One percent of the press coverage was devoted to their record in public life,” he said. “No wonder people think experience is irrelevant.”
Actually it’s not that people think experience is irrelevant, it’s that we don’t think that Hillary has any that is of any consequence.

Of course the issue with experience that she gladly claims but never explains is the least of her current troubles. Her falling poll numbers, Obama opposition, and Hsu issues have all taken center stage over the last few days. It’s no wonder that the Clinton camp is trying to change the focus with a bit of misdirection. They would love to be able to say, “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.” In today’s world there are too many people watching the “magic” and they aren’t being taken in.
