Here’s the reality: the 93 US Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President. He can hire and fire them as he wishes. In fact, Clinton fired all 93 of them and replaced them when he was in office. Now, obviously if you fire every US Attorney, it HAS TO BE for political reasons since some of them must have been doing good jobs.

In comparison to President Clinton’s firing of all 93 U.S. Attorneys, this is nothing. And there appear to be good reasons for replacing these officials, who all serve at the pleasure of the President anyway. The scandal here is not that 8 U.S. Attorneys were sacked, but that the White House communications operation is still not up to the task of defending its position against political attacks.
