Terminal Two at London’s Heathrow airport has been evacuated.

Authorities evacuated Heathrow Airport’s Terminal Two on Tuesday after a man ran up to the Air Algeria desk, dropped off a package, and ran away, police said.

About 2,000 people were ordered out of the terminal, which houses many European carriers, police said.

The British Airports Authority said a package was being investigated and advised all travelers to check with their airlines before traveling to the airport. The airport’s bomb squad was called to the area, police said.

More when it becomes available.

UPDATE: Reuters is reporting that, “A man was arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act after a terminal at London’s Heathrow airport was evacuated on Tuesday because of a suspicious bag, police said.”

UPDATE II: Reuters is now reporting this additional information:

“We were alerted at 1:00 pm (1200 GMT) and the baggage has been cleared and the terminal re-opened,” a spokesman for London’s Metropolitan Police told AFP.

“There was certainly nothing hazardous or toxic in the baggage.

“A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody while inquiries continue into exactly how this began.

“He is currently in custody in a west London police station under the Terrorism Act.”

Meanwhile, police sources said they were looking at closed-circuit television footage to check reports that a man dropped the suspect baggage and ran off.
