McKinney Won’t Be Charged

This is hardly surprising.

A grand jury declined to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney on Friday in connection with a confrontation in which she admitted hitting a police officer who tried to stop her from entering a House office building.

I guess it was her “apology” given back when even the Congressional Black Caucus was urging her not to make an issue out of the incident.

“I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all, and I regret its escalation, and I apologize,” McKinney, D-Ga., said April 6. “There should not have been any physical contact in this incident.”

The cynic in me wonders if this was an apology at all.

James Joyner isn’t shocked either, and may have hit on the real reason for the Grand Jury’s decision:

This is the same jury pool that acquitted Marion Berry on two sets of felony charges and then reelected him twice.
