The Blogiversary Database

Bumped to top. New posts are below.

As the Blogiversary Database continues to grow I wanted to take a moment and post an update and supply some information for those who just have no idea what I’m talking about.

Here are the basics:

For some time now I wanted to create a database of blogs and their start date. That part was relatively easy. The second part of my idea was to have a short bit of javacript code that anyone could add to their blog and display links to the blogs that were celebrating their blogiversary on that day. That was something I didn’t know how to do, but thanks to some good online tutorials I figured it out.

Now bloggers can add their information to the database. On their anniversary date (blogiversary) a link to their blog will be displayed on any site that has added the code. I’ve also set it up to display yesterday’s and tomorrow’s blogiversaries.

In addition to those who add their own information, I will be adding blogs that I know are celebrating. For those who fill out the form you may wonder why I need your email address. It’s to keep out spam submissions. Once you submit the form you will receive a confirmation email at the address you provide. It will contain a link that you must follow to complete the process. Until that is done the blog won’t be displayed. I won’t sell or give away your email address, and I won’t be using the information to spam you either. (I may send a reminder to those who haven’t confirmed their submission, and I hope I’ll be sending you a note of congratulations on your big day, but that’s it.)

Now, here’s the latest. There are now twenty five blogs in the database. All but three have confirmed. Nine of the blogs (more than a third) have their blogiversary this month. Twelve started in 2005, ten in 2004, two started this year, and one (Leaning Straight Up) started in 2003.

Thanks to all for those who have posted on this. Please continue to spread the word. If you have any questions just send a note to lakelandjim at gmail dot com. Thanks!

UPDATE 5/20/06 9:07 — We are up to 27 blogs in the database. I’ll be skimming through them later today to see how many have the code. Thanks to all for adding their blogs.

UPDATE 5/27/06 10:15 — We are stuck at 49! Write a post about the Blogiversary Database and get an open trackback below:

links from Technoratiyou can put in your sidebar to display Blogiversaries (yesterday’s, today’s & tomorrow’s). Once it’s in your template, it updates by itself, so no extra work for you. Check my left sidebar below the Reader Quotes section to see how it looks. Nowgo sign up so that I can keep track of you. See better examples ยป

Jim:

Can’t find your email address anywhere so I’ll just use this comment thread.

Your trackback to my post on voting was lost in my spam queue. Don’t know why you and Jeff Goldstein keep getting caught up in the darn thing because no one else’s does.

If you want to TB again, be my guest.

Thanks, I’ve resubmitted it. The email address is up at the top of the page, btw.

Well I’d add my site, but the database only goes as far back as 2000.
