Gas Price Insight

I was watching some TV earlier this evening (The Phillies/Braves game, if you must know) when it struck me. Not quite the “insight” advertised in the back of magazines from my youth, but an insight from advertising none the less — These high gas prices are great!

“What”, you say?

Sure, it’s not so great for the person who puts 50+ miles per day on their car, or even for the soccer mom (or dad) who is paying nearly $40 for a tank full. So, who is it good for?

The ads gave me the answer — struggling car makers. In the span of just a few innings I saw a number of car ads touting “best mileage in it’s class” and similar messages. Trade in that gas hog for something new and efficient they all seemed to say.

Here we have a perfectly good conspiracy and my tinfoil hat is at the cleaners.

(Oh, the Phillies won, 6-3)
