What Do You Think?

I was reading a story on the immigration bill when a phrase struck me. It really has nothing to do with the immigration debate, but I think it’s an important thing to consider none the less.

Landmark legislation offering eventual citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants suffered a potentially fatal blow Friday in the Senate, the latest in a series of election-year setbacks for President Bush and the Republicans who control Congress.

Two things struck me:

  1. I know what they’re saying with the phrase, “Republicans who control Congress,” but I’m just arrogant enough to think that the people control the congress. More accurately (and less naively) I think that’s how it should be.
  2. Related to number 1, doesn’t the fact that this bill hasn’t moved forward a testament to the people who made their voices heard? Sounds like a good thing to me.

So, what are your thoughts? Leave a comment.
