First Cup You make good coffee . . . You’re a slob, but you make good coffee. ~ Cher, in Moonstruck

It must be a very quiet news weekend, as quite a few bloggers are posting on some personal triumphs, challenges, changes, and re-directions in their personal lives and on their blogs. In some cases it is a testament to the changing nature of this new media that has brought about these bits of news.

After quite a few months of job hunting, Brian of Iowa Voice has found work! Starting Monday he will begin training for his new position as assistant advertising copy editor for the Ottumwa Wal-Mart. Congratulations Brian.

Prior to his most recent business trip, The MaryHunter (TMH’s Bacon Bits) announced that his site will be taking on a new look. Some of the changes are just under way, but be sure to take a look around and let him know what you think.

Regular readers of Wizbang will be surprised to learn that Jay Tea has accepted a position that will force him to move — to Massachusetts! Good luck with that, bud.

It is always exciting when someone you admire receives some well deserved recognition. Ed Morrissey (Captain’s Quarters) has been promoted to Rear Admiral (Lower Half) [RADM (LH)] in the Minnesota Merchant Marine Reserves. During his active duty time he has been tasked with protecting our northern border against illegal crossings from Canada.

Last week Dr. Rusty Shackleford (The Jawa Report) discussed his disillusion with Academia when he didn’t get the position for which he had applied. Following up on some of the comments to his post, Rusty is planning to announce that he will be starting a syndicated opinion column at the end of the current semester.

The column has already been picked up by several smaller newspapers, and talks are underway with some of the bigger papers as well. Concurrent with the first column will be the revelation of his true identity.

First thing every morning I scan my blogroll to see what folks are discussing. Much of that discussion this past week has focused on the immigration bill currently in congress. While many bloggers have done an excellent job in covering this story, the big hat tip has to go to Don Surber for uncovering the news that Robert Byrd is himself an illegal alien.

On Friday AJ Strata (The Strata-Sphere) announced that he has been called as a witness in the ongoing investigation into the Valerie Plame investigation. Lawyers for Scooter Libby have already taken his deposition and plan on calling him as a witness when the trial starts next year.

One of my favorite daily reads is In The Bullpen. Chad Evans is always on top of the latest news regarding the war on terror. But, as regular readers there know, Chad is also something of a sports fan. It has been my pleasure to exchange quite a few emails discussing football with Chad over the past few months. This morning he informed me (used with his permission, of course) that he will be announcing his association as an independent scout for the Dallas Cowboys.

Lovely Sister Toldjah has posted the news that there is a new man in her life. It seems that this might be a Carville/Matlin type relationship. Congratulations none the less.

Saturday’s are typically a time for less serious blogging. I hope all of you enjoy your day, and that this first day of April is a fun one for you.

Carnival Of The Celebrities…

This week, the big news is Sharon Stone’s chest. Seems audiences are mocking her full-frontal nudity in Basic Instinct II….

I thought you were on acid until I saw the date.
(Actually Bob Byrd was born in North Carolina)

Alas, it is true. Personally, I was appalled at the offer, but it was too good to pass up. Really, to be Absolute Dictator of the Bay State? I? Lord have mercy!

Finally, there is a chance to inject some sanity on the Massholes. Over and over I’ve seen just how astonishingly wrong-headed they’ve been. “Obtuse” doesn’t even begin to cover it. Liberals ought to look at the Bay State and see just what happens when they get their wishes. States don’t get any bluer or any more messed-up than Massachusetts.
